Dear Families,
Welcome to our third week of First Grade! I am so attached to your little ones already, and we're all getting to know each other and become a "First Grade Family". Some highlights from the past two weeks have been our morning meeting, where each student has an opportunity to share anything that is on his or her mind, our marble celebration, where the kiddos had so much fun playing with and sharing their toys, and our center games, where learners had the chance to play and help each other while having fun.
For the rest of this month, we'll continue to read books, write and share our own stories, begin our "math stories" which is a method of thinking about and solving word problems with manipulatives, becoming more affluent with numbers up to 120 using base ten blocks, and learning about famous scientists and safe science practices.
Thanks to everyone who has been reading the books your child brings home! We are learning how to choose "just right" books. Can you please let me know if the books your child chooses are too easy or too hard? It's very important to make sure they are reading books that are on their levels. This week we will begin our sight word homework. It will come home each Monday, or the first day we come back from the weekend.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support!
For the Children,
Gretchen Farris
