Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We had such a positive start to our New Year in First Grade. Each student received a "random acts of kindness" chart, and each day our kids will chose one kind thing to do, then write about what we did at the end of the day in our planners.Check it out!
This week in math we will be adding different amounts of money to solve problems. Please practice counting coins with your child, as this is a difficult concept to grasp. In science we'll study space, including the moon, sun, stars, and planets. If your child would like to bring books to school about space, that would be great! In language arts we will be learning about fables, inferencing, and characters.
Homework starts back up this week. Please help your child be responsible to turn his/her homework in on Friday. We have a lot of students who say, "my (family member) didn't put it in my folder." I would really like the kids to be in charge of their own homework. This will help prepare them for Second Grade. Also, please, please, please spend at least 15 minutes listening to your child read, then initial the reading log. The benefits will truly last a lifetime!
I hope 2017 brings many happy times for you all!
For the Children,
Gretchen Farris
