Dear Families,
Happy Autumn! Hope everyone has been enjoying this lovely weather with their First Graders. We will be learning about day and night and the seasons in science this week, and the moon, sun, stars, and planets in the days to come. In reading we'll focus on the differences between fiction and non fiction, as well as text features and how they help us to understand information. In math our learning will be centered around counting forward and backwards to/from 120, counting on from any given number, and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. As I mentioned at the conference, we have started Formative Loop, which is an individualized method of practicing math facts. If your child has math homework, please help him/her either correct it or complete it. They will retry it the next day to reinforce the skill. Please complete these math sheets and send to school by Friday. Thanks to everyone who is helping their children memorize the sight words! This really helps the reading lights come on, along with reading together on a daily basis.
We will be having our first Field Trip to the Austin Nature and Science Center on Thursday, November 30th! Please look for the permission note to come home soon, and join us if you can.
I hope you all have a very special time of Thanksgiving with your friends and family!
For the Children,
Gretchen Farris
