Dear Families,
Happy Saturday! It is such a lovely day, with the promise of fall in the air. This week we will be reading a book called Wait and See by Robert Munsch. It's a silly story about a little girl who turns 6 years old and makes outlandish wishes when she blows out the candles on her cake. We will relate the story to our own lives and write a story about our own birthday wishes. We call this "Writer's Workshop". The first step is brainstorming, then drafting, reading to a friend, editing, conferencing with our teacher, and finally, publishing! Please remember to enjoy the book with your child and then send it back to school so your child can read to Ms. Drummond. Plus, our little readers love to read their own books again and again! We will also be having fun with "Reader's Workshop" where students choose a book and work on a particular skill.
Please see the email sign up for World Culture Night, happening this Thursday! We will be highlighting the culture, food, and art of Australia. We especially need volunteers to trace the kids' hands for an amazing art project. Please let us know if you can help out. Thanks!
We are having a problem with toys. Toys should be left at home, unless it is a special celebration. When I see them, I ask the children to put them in their backpacks, which they do, but the toys don't stay there! Please encourage your child to leave all toys at home. Thank you!
Your children are wonderful and I am enjoying them so much! Thanks for all you do at home to support their growth and learning.
For the Children,
Gretchen Farris
